In my current tactician run, I have a shadow blade wielding 2 speed daggers and a combat-mage wielding 2 crit axes - I "upgrade" both every 2 levels: just craft them a new set.

  • crafted (melee?) weapons always seem to have higher dmg ranges than what you find/buy.
  • Keep in mind: all them golden knives, etc.

  • When you see a ruby or tormented soul for sale with a vendor: do all you can to buy it.
  • Save the essences for specific boss-fights.

  • Boil leather armor for added armor, patch some leather scraps on cloth (not sure: my current party isn't wearing any robes or cloth)
